India gained its independence from Britain on 15th August, 1947. The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949 and came into force on 26th January, 1950. The same year the first president of India–Rajendra Prasad–was elected by the Constituent Assembly. Below is a list of Presidents of India since 1950.
